Designers and Manufacturers of
World Class Machinery

Edgewater Machine Company, Inc. (Emco) was founded in 1944 as a company that initially manufactured a line of quilting machines and accessories. Our founder, Kurt Schlegel, designed and engineered custom machinery for his customers' needs. The company progressed into high speed hot oil drum and flame laminating machines for the textile and carpet industries. As the company grew, it concentrated more on the development of its quilting machine line of high speed lockstitch machines. And our newer line of our Emco 9000 Series Chainstitch Quilters.

Kurt Schlegel patented the first 1x3x6 three needle bar quilting machine. This type of machine has been copied by every quilting machine manufacturer today.

Our company's goal today as it was from day one, is to continue the "Family Values" that has made the name Emco synonymous with "Quality, Simplicity, Ruggedness and Easy Serviceability".

Quality

Quality refers to our standards for materials and workmanship. Emco has never skimped on material cost or quality in building our machines. We have designed our product line to exceed the industry standards and surpass our customers' demanding requirements.

Simplicity

Simplicity refers to the lack of superfluous complexity in the various systems on an Emco machine. As much as possible, an Emco machine is designed to rely on tried and tested technology and methods rather than catering to hi-tech for the sake of trendy technology. Our simplistic controls and intuitive designs are instantly understood and utilized by the machine operators. Schooling and training classes are unnecessary to grasp the easy to understand system. Most operators never read the manuals. And yes, we still print manuals. You won't need to search for a CD and load it in your computer to find a part number or to look up an answer to a question.

Ruggedness

Ruggedness refers to our commitment to build the longest lasting and strongest machines in the market. Rugged relates to the equipment's ability to overcome the most difficult applications and handle the abuse and wear of a 24/7 schedule. Our design of our equipment incorporates heavier and stronger components than the competitors' machines along with specifications that exceed the application's requirements. In fact, the Emco 9000 series of machines are the only machines in this industry with a 2 year warranty.

Easy Serviceability

Easy Serviceability refers to the planning that goes into the design of our machines. Emco understands that all equipment needs service and this means time spent servicing a machine is time lost in manufacturing. Emco's machinery designs always consider easy serviceability. We won't build it if it is not easy to service and maintain. Our Emco 9000 Series machines were developed from the ground up with the understanding that constant maintenance and repairs is not something a customer wants to add to their work load. The Emco 9000 Series machines are designed having all ball bearing construction of its moving parts and reciprocating components. There are no friction or rubbing points, no cams, no springs, and no rods/bushings on the moving components. This type of engineering has eliminated the daily need for lubricating maintenance.
